In Panama, a nation of 4.8 million, where 1.3 million are children under 18, the quest for quality education faces numerous challenges. With a literacy rate that is among the lowest in the Western Hemisphere, children in Panama battle against poverty, geographical isolation, and a lack of resources, making access to quality education a distant dream for many.
OUR VISION and progress
Estrellitas Del Mar, located in the heart of Piñas Bay, aims to overcome these obstacles by providing a beacon of hope and learning in the Darien rainforest.
Since our inception in early 2022, Estrellitas Del Mar has embarked on an ambitious journey to offer unparalleled educational opportunities to the children of Piñas Bay. Our approach combines international education standards with a creative-based curriculum, focusing on conservation, healthy living, and community values. Our dedicated team, led by Argelis Alvarez, along with Arixa Rodriguez and Arelis Badillo, is the heartbeat of our school, fostering an environment where every act of kindness sparks a difference.
Key Milestones:
School Infrastructure: We’ve transformed a generously donated house into a vibrant educational facility, complete with two classrooms, a kitchen, teacher’s room, media room, and separate bathrooms, all furnished with child-friendly amenities.
Curriculum and Expansion: Starting with 18 preschoolers, we’ve adopted a Creative Curriculum for Preschool, emphasizing play and exploration. Plans are underway to introduce a Kindergarten classroom in 2024, with the aim of eventually expanding to a full elementary school. Community Engagement: Beyond education, we’re committed to veterinary care, sanitation, and recycling programs, promoting a sustainable and healthy community environment.
